About Clifton Main Street
Since 1995, the Clifton Main Street program has aimed to provide economic stability to the heart of our city through a comprehensive revitalization program focused on design, economic vitality, organization, and promotion:
- Design: Supports the community’s transformation by enhancing the physical and visual assets that set the commercial district apart.
- Economic Vitality: Focuses on capital, incentives, and other economic and financial tools to assist new and existing businesses, catalyze property development, and create a supportive environment for entrepreneurs and innovators that drives local economies.
- Organization: Creates a strong foundation for a sustainable revitalization effort, including cultivating partnerships, community involvement, and resources for the district.
- Promotion: Positions the downtown or commercial district as the center of the community and hub of economic activity, while creating a positive image that showcases the community’s unique characteristics.
The City of Clifton’s Main Street Program is accredited under Texas Main Street, a department of the Texas Historical Commission. As a Main Street America™ Accredited program, Clifton is recognized as a leading program among the national network of more than 1,200 neighborhoods and communities who share both a commitment to creating high-quality places and to building stronger communities through preservation-based economic development. All Main Street America™ Accredited programs meet a set of National Accreditation Standards of Performance as outlined by the National Main Street Center, Inc., a subsidiary of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Clifton Main Street is based in local government and supported by a dynamic advisory board and team of volunteers. Working in partnership with business and property owners, governments, residents and others, the Main Street Department focuses on projects that encourage the ongoing revitalization of the historic heart of Clifton.
