Activities and Accomplishments
Working in partnership with business and property owners, governments, residents and others, the Main Street Department focuses on projects that encourage the ongoing revitalization of the historic heart of Clifton.
Projects include historic preservation assistance, a facade grant program, consultation, promotion of the economic and cultural districts, and much more. Volunteers work with staff to produce special events in the Main Street District and collaborate with local organizations to promote community wellbeing.
The Heritage Plaza project, featuring the life-size bronze “On the Banks of the Bosque,” began in 1997 and was one of the earliest major Main Street undertakings. In the heart of Clifton’s Main Street District, the plaza serves as a beautiful reminder of Clifton’s agricultural heritage and position on the Chisholm Trail.
Legacy Park Historic District in Clifton’s Fairgrounds is a major preservation project of the 1937 stone fair buildings. The Home Economics building was completed in 2019, and roof and structural repairs were made to the Auction Barn in 2021. Clifton Main Street is honored to revitalize these icons of our story.
Ongoing program activities include the Lamp Post Project, Legacy Park Historic District, Avenue D Gardens, Clifton’s Northern Entrance, FallFest, Trick or Treat with Main Street, DowntownTX.org, Texas Treasures Business Awards, and monthly mixers.
